Harriet E. Maskil, 87, a lifetime resident of Westmoreland, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013 at the Westy Community Care Home.
Harriet was born January 8, 1926 the daughter of Melvin O. and Minnie (Pullen) Hill. She graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1944 and later from Kansas State University in 1949 with a degree in Medical Technology. She married Oliver “Doc” Francis Maskil on June 24, 1951 in Westmoreland. He preceded her in death on February 20, 2012.
She worked at Deciaro Hospital in Westmoreland and started the Medical Laboratory there, running it for several years. She later owned and operated the Westmoreland Recorder Newspaper with her husband for many years. She was a member if the Westmoreland United Methodist Church, a past member of the Rock Creek Historical Society, O.C.T.A., Westmoreland Order of Eastern Star, and the KSU Alumni Association. She enjoyed traveling and going on cruises and trips with the KSU Alumni, and was a dedicated mother and wife to her family.
Survivors include her son, Craig Maskil and wife Lori of Rosebud, South Dakota; one grandson, Dustin Maskil, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Eugene Hill.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Westmoreland Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Westmoreland City Cemetery. Family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Church Education Building until time of service.
