Kenneth A. Bloomfield, 88, of Paxico, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Midland Care Hospice in Topeka, Kansas.
Kenneth was born August 10, 1924 on the family farm south of Paxico, Kansas. He was the fifth child of Carl S. and Hilda C. (Johnson) Bloomfield. Kenneth attended school in Paxico graduating from Paxico High School in 1943. After high school Kenneth joined the United States Navy on June 28, 1943 where he served during World War II until his honorable discharge on March 3, 1946. On February 17, 1967 in Topeka, Kansas, Kenneth married Marjorie V. Tessendorf. She preceded him in death in 1994.
After the military Kenneth returned home where he worked as a farmer and stockman his whole life. He was a member of the Paxico United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion in Alma, Kansas. He loved playing cards especially pitch and enjoyed traveling to Texas during the winter. Kenneth was a prankster at heart and had a great sense of humor.
Kenneth is the much loved uncle of five surviving nieces: Charlotte Santangelo, Carolyn Gordon, Juanita Brown, Carla Malone and Janet Minihan and five nephews: Dean Schutter, Leonard Schutter, Steve Bloomfield, Larry Bloomfield and Bill Bloomfield. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Marie, Elda, Ruby and Betty and one brother: Carlyle.
Funeral services for Kenneth will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Paxico United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery with full military honors. A visitation for Kenneth will be held prior to his service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Paxico First United Methodist Church and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 126, 66401, Alma, KS.
