Delbert J. Colson, 69, passed away at his residence in Wabaunsee, Kansas, Sunday March 30th, 2008.
Born at home on September 29, 1938 in Wabaunsee, he was the son of George and Velda “Arlene” (Klink) Colson. He attended schools in McFarland and Alma, Kansas. On June 8, 1956, he married the love of his life, Margaret Rose (Blankley) in Westmoreland, Kansas. She preceded him in death on July 4, 2005. Delbert worked for many years at Bayer’s Construction in Manhattan before working for the City of Wamego Electrical Department for 37 years until retirement.
Delbert served as a deacon of the Beecher Bible and Rifle Church in Wabaunsee. He also held memberships with Ducks Unlimited and the National Rifle Association. His passion was hunting and fishing.
He is survived by: his sons, Delbert E. Colson, Ronald Colson and wife Lori, David Colson, James Colson and wife Linda, all of Wamego, KS, Donald Colson and wife Jamie of St. Marys, KS, and John Colson and wife Kim of Onaga, KS; his daughter Teresa Woodworth and husband Richard of Manhattan, KS; his brother, Dennis Colson and wife Mary of Rossville, KS; his sister, Betty Lou Riniker and husband Daney of Louisville, KS; eleven grandchildren, Nathan, Joe Marlanna, Mason, Jordan, Pamela, Cole, Marissa, Justin, Randy, and Brandon Colson; four step grandchildren, Dustin and Jason Krohn, Brandon and Brian Bailey; two great-grandchildren, Kendra and Hunter Colson; five step great-grandchildren, Laura, Rebecca, Eva, Maria and Ty Krohn. In addition to his wife, Delbert was also preceded in death by his brother, Leroy and mother Velda.
Funeral services for Delbert will be Saturday, April 5th, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego with burial following in Wabaunsee Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Memorials have been designated in Delbert’s name for the Terry C.
