Betty Jean Mogge

Betty Jean Mogge, 87, of Alma, KS, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Rolling Hills Health Care in Topeka, where she had been a resident for several years. Betty was born March 8, 1926 in Valencia, KS the daughter of Carl J. and Emma C. (Johnson) Sarver. She attended high school in Cuba, KS and graduated from Topeka High School. Following high school, she graduated from Strickler Business College in Topeka. She then went to work for the Santa Fe Railway offices as a comptometer operator in the accounting department. Betty married Archie L. Mogge on July 30, 1950 in Alma, KS. Archie preceded her in death in 1980. Betty and Archie moved to Alma in 1959. In 1967, Betty went to work for the Alma School District as the district’s secretary for over 23 years. . She settled into a life of raising her children, working, and marriage. Her daughters were growing up during the “flower children times” of the 1970’s, but she made a point to have important talks with her girls and to let them know that she love them. Betty was also a member of the Alma United Methodist Church and also the Order of Eastern Star. She loved to dance, and attended many dances in Topeka to the sounds of the big bands. Survivors include her two daughters: Denise Mogge Ash (Ted), and Donna Botkin (Mike) of Topeka, KS; and three grandchildren: Brett and Tarryn Ash, and Cody Botkin, of Topeka. Funeral services for Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5th at the Alma United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Alma City Cemetery. She will lie in-state beginning at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, with a visitation from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alma United Methodist Church, or Midland Hospice of Topeka and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, PO Box 126, 66401.
