Lorene H. Craig, 98, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center in Wamego.
Lorene was born November 26, 1914 in Wyacondah Township, in Davis County, Iowa. She was the only child of Jay and Ethel (Brunk) McVey. As a small child Lorene and her family moved to Lakin, Kansas where she grew up and attended schools. On July 20, 1930, she married Blake “B.L” Rector in Garden City, Kansas, to this union a son Darold and a daughter LaVon were born. Lorene and B.L. raised their family in Ingalls, Kansas, where she worked as the head cook for the Ingalls High School for many years. Lorene and B.L. later divorced. On October 19, 1973, Lorene was united in marriage to Jody Craig, in Boulder, Colorado. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Lorene and Jody lived in Denver, Colorado until Jody retired in the mid 1980’s, where after his retirement they moved to Bolivar, Missouri. They lived in Bolivar until 1995 when they decided to move to Wamego, Kansas to be closer to Lorene’s daughter. Lorene was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Preston, MO and a member of the Kaw Valley Heritage Club, Wamego. She enjoyed cooking, embroidery and traveling with her husband Jody. She also loved conversing with friends and spending time with her family.
She is survived by one daughter: LaVon Rosell, of Wamego, KS; seven grandchildren: Sharla, Eugene, Lorinda, Carla, Cindy, Terry and Sheila; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son Darold; a son-in-law: Orland and three grandchildren.
Graveside services for Lorene will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Wamego City Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to her service at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wamego Senior Center and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
