Merna Bernice (Breymeyer) Raine

Merna Bernice (Breymeyer) Raine, 94, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center, Wamego. Merna was born February 17, 1919 in the Wells Creek Community, the daughter of Eduard G. and Lena D. (Soelter) Breymeyer. She grew up in the Wells Creek area and attended school at Wells Creek District #34. On February 21, 1939 at Wells Creek, Merna was united in marriage to Francis “Lloyd” Raine. He preceded her in death in 1972. Merna was a stay at home mom and fulltime farmer’s wife before going to work for several years in the housekeeping department at Kansas State University before her retirement. Merna was a member of Dorcus Circle at Wells Creek Church, H.D.U. and was also a 4-H leader. She was a very active in her church and was a member of the Immanuel Faith Community Church, Wells Creek. She enjoyed sewing and gardening and loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Merna is survived by her son: Duane Raine and wife Delores of Pottsboro, Texas; her daughter: Janet Greenberg and husband Allan, of Pinson, Alabama, one foster brother: Art Wille; five grandchildren: Eric Raine (Sara Jane), Jason Raine (Heather), Trent Schindler, Holly Franklin (Chuck) and Larry Greenberg; eight great-grandchildren and numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, one brother: Donald Breymeyer, one sister: Ona Flake and a niece: Kathy Flake. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the Immanuel Faith Community Church, Wells Creek. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Merna will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2013, followed by a visitation from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Faith Community Church, Wells Creek and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
