Dorothy Marie Finley

Dorothy M. (Puckett) Finley, 67, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday April 16, 2008 at her home with her daughters and sister at her bedside. Dorothy was born August 5, 1940 in Garrison Township, Kansas, the daughter of Donald and Evelyn Puckett. She grew up on a farm near Westmoreland before moving to Wamego whe she graduated from highschool in 1958. She married Samuel Mack Finley on January 18, 1959 in Wamego. Mack preceded her in death on June 16, 2001 after 42 years of marriage. After living in Texas, Mississippi, Arkansas and Missouri, the couple settled in Topeka. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and will receive her 50 year membership pin on April 29th in Carbondale. She also was a member of the Shrine Nobelles and the Red Hat Mommas of Topeka. Dorothy was also a past guardian of Bethel #1 International Order of Job’s Daughters. She was a kind and loving person who always put others’ needs before her own and will be truly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Her survivors include: her daughters, Tena M. Welch and her husband Kevin of Overbrook, KS and Cindy Cook and her husband Bryan of Osage City, KS; her three grandchildren who were the light of her life, Kevin (K.J.) and Elizabeth Welch of Overbrook, KS and Samuel (Sam) Cook of Osage City, KS; her sister, Joanne Cooper and her husband Tom of Sarasota, FL; and her beloved cat, Sassy. A Celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held on Tuesday April 22, 2008 at her home in Topeka from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be Wednesday April 23, at 10:00 a.m. at Wamego City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials made in Dorothy’s name for Midland Hospice or Cotton O’Neill Cancer Center both of Topeka.
