Ethel Marie Penn, 89, of Emerson, Nebraska, passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson. Ethel was born August 10, 1924 to Theodore and Mary (Fryer) Myers in La Fontaine, Kansas. Ethel married Manuel B. Penn on October 18, 1942. To this union, four children were born. Manuel preceded her in death. Ethel was a member of the Welcome Wagon and VFW in Manhattan, Kansas. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge in El Dorado, Kansas. She spent her time crocheting, traveling, dancing, gardening and she was a phenomenal seamstress. Ethel loved the challenge of crossword puzzles. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. Ethel is survived by her children: Mary Ethel Ellis and husband Larry, of Emerson, NE, Edward L. Penn and wife Kay, of St. George, KS and Patricia Rippberger and husband Dale, of Topeka, KS; two brothers: Ted Myers of Fredonia, KS and Don Myers of Derby, KS; one sister: Florence Crossfield of Moore, OK; seven grandchildren: James, Rodney, Stephanie, Sarah, Gregory, Jennifer and Scott; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one son: Theodore S. Penn. Funeral services for Ethel will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Burial will follow in the Valley View Memorial Gardens, Manhattan. A visitation for Ethel will be held prior to her service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ethel Penn Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
