Jill Marie Peterson

Jill Marie Peterson, 43, of rural Wamego, Kansas, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family. Jill was born March 30, 1970 in Topeka, Kansas the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Margaret (Mees) Peterson. She attended school in Wamego graduating from Wamego High School in 1988. After high school Jill attended Emporia State University and was a member of the Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority House. She graduated from Emporia State University in 1992, before receiving her Master’s Degree in social work from the University of Kansas. After college Jill moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she worked for a number of years as a social worker before returning home due to her declining health. Jill was a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. Jill is survived by her parents: Bob and Margaret of rural Wamego, KS; two sisters: Beth Eilert and husband Doug of Beloit, KS and Dana Pieschl and husband Dave of Marysville, KS; one brother: Wade Peterson of Kansas City, MO; three nieces: Meg, Elle and Kolbe Eilert; six nephews: Luke, Mason and Dominic Eilert and Zach, Gabe and Gavin Pieschl; her two grandmothers: Mary Mees and Jackie Peterson, both of St. Marys, KS and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. Cremation will take place following her services and a private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Jill will lie in-state at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church beginning at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service being recited at 6:30 p.m. The family will greet friends during a visitation following until 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church or the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Topeka Chapter and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, P.O.
