St. George- Esther A. Flak, 87, passed away peacefully at her home near St. George, Kansas on May 1st, 2008.
Born on January 31, 1921, in Bryant, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of Jesse and Belle (Jones) Leadingham. On December 24, 1938, she married Walter Flak in Antigo, Wisconsin. Walter preceded her in death in 1978 after sharing 40 years of marriage. Esther had lived her entire life in Wisconsin until the last two years when she moved to St. George to be with her son Jim. She had always worked diligently, farming and raising her dearly loved goats. In her spare time Esther stayed busy with gardening, quilting and crocheting.
Esther is survived by: her sons, Jim and partner Don Cannon, and Paul Flak and wife Mary; her daughters, Carol Wolfe and husband Ralph, Sally Rudolph and husband Gary, Peggy Teal and husband Arturo, Barbara Whitt and husband Larry and Mary DeHart and husband Lyle; twenty-six grandchildren; numerous great and great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son Patrick, two infant sons, a grandson, her brother and several sisters.
Cremation has been effected and a Memorial Celebration of Esther’s life will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Manhattan, KS. on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. (700 Poyntz, Manhattan, KS).
