John M. Karr

John M. Karr, 79, of rural St. George, KS, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Judith E. Karr; daughter, Connie J. Hummel and son-in-law, Jerry Hummel; daughter, Jamie L. Draper-Karr; son, Erik J. Karr; son Nick S. Karr and 8 beautiful grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Bruce L. Karr and sister-in-law, Verena Karr; sister, Ann Weller and brother-in-law, Leon Weller; brother, James B. Karr and sister-in-law, Laurel A. Karr. John was a General Contractor for 42 years building everything from room additions to Commercial buildings. He left a legacy of excellent craftsmanship across the states of California, Nevada and Texas. He was able to repair anything that was asked of him thus earning the nickname of “Mr. Fix It”. His hobby was building and working on Street Rods and his pet project was always, his 56’ Chevy Drag Car, nicknamed “Mr. 56” with which he won many 1st place races. He was a wonderful, loving Husband and Father and an attentive and adored Grandfather. John was known for his love of life, his wry sense of humor and mischievousness, and was dearly loved by friends and family alike. He will be greatly missed… Funeral services for John will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery. A visitation where family will greet friends will be held Tuesday, from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., also at the Stewart Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
