Patty Lou Simmer, 80, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Westy Community Care Home in Westmoreland, Kansas.
Patty was born September 3, 1933 in Paxico, Kansas, the daughter of Henry William and Lydia Elizabeth (Buchmeier) Anderson. She attended schools in Paxico, graduating from Paxico High School in 1951. After high school Patty worked as a secretary for Victory Life Insurance for 13 years before moving to Wamego in 1964. On December 12, 1964 in Olathe, Kansas, Patty was united in marriage to John E. Simmer. After her marriage Patty became a homemaker.
Patty was a member of the Paxico United Methodist Church and volunteered some of her time to schools, clubs and sporting events in the Wamego community. She was an avid K-STATE fan, especially when it came to football. She enjoyed gardening and reading and was a big cat and animal lover.
Patty is survived by her husband John of the home; her daughter: Aimee Heinisch and husband Brad of Wamego, Kansas; three grandchildren: Grant and twins, Kendall and Cole; three sisters: Nola Polter of Topeka, KS, Dixie Herren and husband Earl of Wichita, KS and Judy Wilson and husband Jim of Maple Hill, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. A visitation for Patty will be held prior to her service beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wamego Public Library or the Pottawatomie County Caring Hearts Humane Society and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
