Genevieve Florence Cease-Rhodeman

March 22, 1919 — June 15, 2008

Genevieve Cease-Rhodeman, 89, formerly of the Wamego area, passed away Sunday June 15, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Village in Manhattan. She was born March 22, 1919 in New York, New York, the daughter of Gustav and Florence (Stansfield) Stilwell. She was confirmed in the Catholic Church on February 26, 1933 in Eatontown, New Jersey. In May 1941 Genevieve married Carl Cease. The couple later divorced. She then married Garnet Rhodeman. He preceded her in death in 1978. Genevieve moved to the Wamego area in 1955 and was a member of the National Woman’s Relief Corps. from 1973-1975. Genevieve was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were the lights of her life. She enjoyed baking and chatting with people. She had a loving heart and even helped with the care of the residents on her court at St. Joseph Village. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by: her daughter, Dawn Blume and her husband Robert of Milford, KS; her sons, William Cease of McClure IL, Carl Cease Jr. and his wife Lonnie of Scribner, NE, and Larry Cease and his wife Sheryl of Wamego, KS; her sister Eleanor of PA; her granddaughters, Angel, Tina, Kathy, Vicky, Michelle and Linda; her grandsons, Garnett, Chris, Todd, Alan, Michael and Brian; and her great grandchildren, Charles, Kristena, Devin, Justin, Colleen, Amber, Christopher and Chrisxavier. In addition to her husband, Genevieve was preceded in death by a grandson, William Cease and brothers, Frederick and Louis Stilwell Funeral Services will be at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego on Wednesday June 18th, at 2:00 p.m. with burial following in Wamego City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services and will start at 1:00 p.m. A memorial has been established in Genevieve’s name for St. Joseph’s Village and contributions may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
