Dorothy A. (Hupe) Straub, 85, of Belvue, Kansas, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 in Manhattan, Kansas at The Good Shepherd Hospice House.
Dorothy was born August 3, 1928, in Wamego, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Catherine “Dean” (Sackrider) Hupe. Dorothy grew up on the family farm and graduated from Wamego High School in 1946. After high school Dorothy attended college, before being united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” H. Straub in Wamego, Kansas. Joe preceded her n death in 2011.
Dorothy was a full time farm wife and also worked as a school teacher for a rural school, before teaching at Louisville. She also worked several years for Harmony Gardens, before going to work for Farm Bureau of Manhattan in the data processing department. She then became a homemaker. Dorothy loved gardening and feeding the birds. She also loved spending time at the cabin and spending time with her great nieces and nephews. She enjoyed traveling and Buddy and Max and going to Brunkow’s garage every morning for her Cappuccino. Dorothy attended Louisville United Methodist Church and she also loved donating her personal time to helping with Harvester.
Dorothy is survived by her nephew: Richard Powell and his wife Helen and her niece: Sherry Duncan and husband Gary all of rural St. George, Kansas; one sister-in-law: Evelyn Hawley and numerous great nieces and nephews along with two great-great nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, LaVera Powell and brother, Louis Hupe
Funeral Services for Dorothy will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow at the Belvue City Cemetery. A visitation for Dorothy will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to her service. Memorials are suggested to the Louisville United Methodist Church or The Good Shepherd Hospice House and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, KS, PO Box 48, 66547.
