Hazel LaVonne Carr, 72, of Wamego, Kansas formerly of Westmoreland, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas.
Hazel was born December 15, 1941 in Westmoreland, the daughter of Everett and Mary Luella (Campbell) Carr. At the age of nine, Hazel contracted Polio. She attended local schools, graduating from Wamego High School, before attending a business school in Topeka.
Hazel went to work for Pyramid Clothing Manufacturing in Onaga as a seamstress and later went to work for Artex in Manhattan, before retiring. After her retirement she was a beloved babysitter for many friends and families in the Wamego community. Hazel enjoyed quilting, reading, her cats and dong jigsaw puzzles and playing computer games. She especially loved playing scrabble with her niece Debby. She also enjoyed sharing a home with her sister Eunice in their later years and also attended the Wamego Family Worship Center.
She is survived by her sister: Eunice, of the home; sister: Bonnie Cravens and husband, Wayne, Manhattan, KS; two brothers: Kenny Carr and wife Karen of Westmoreland, KS and Dean Carr and wife Kathy of Ozawkie, KS; numerous nieces and nephews and many many other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Lonnie.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow at Spring Creek Cemetery in rural Fostoria, KS. A visitation for Hazel will be held prior to her service beginning at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wamego Family Worship Center and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
