Isabel Rita Torrey Mondt

Isabel R. Torrey Mondt, 91, of St. George, Kansas, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Society in Wamego.   Isabel was born March 23, 1922, in rural Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of William and Mary (Lintz) Gros. Isabel attended Flush schools. On January 1, 1945, Isabel was united in marriage to Mark James Torrey. He preceded her in death. Isabel was later married to Cleason Mondt on May 24, 1977, he to preceded her in death. Isabel was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Flush and the St. Joseph Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Pitch. She also enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the Casino and loved going dancing. She was an avid K-State and KU basketball fan and was always watching or listening to the games. Isabel was very proud that she had lived in the same home for 69 years. Most importantly Isabel loved being with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.   Isabel is survived by her four children: Carol Ann Eichman of Flush, KS, Ruth Mary Cassity of Wamego, KS, Steve Torrey and wife Terry of St. George, KS and Dudley Torrey and wife Denise of St. George, KS; one son in-law: Monty Peterson of St. George, KS; 12 grandchildren: Christopher and Mark Higgins, Scott and Matthew Cassity, Stacy Blanka and Mark Torrey, Audrey, Torrey and Ben Peterson, Caleb and Jess Torrey and Megan Ibarra and eight great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Jane Peterson in January of 2014, eight sisters and four brothers.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Flush. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Isabel will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, where a visitation will be held starting at 5:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
