Mary Ann (Winter) Stewart

Mary Ann (Winter) Stewart, 73, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.   Mary Ann was born on July 7, 1940 in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Heptig) Winter. She attended Flush schools, graduating from Flush High School in 1958. After high school Mary Ann attended St. Marys College in Leavenworth, Kansas, before moving to Manhattan where she went to work for Farm Bureau. She then moved to Kansas City and began working for the Sutherland Lumber Company and later for Faultless Starch. Mary Ann was united in marriage to John William Stewart on July 3, 1967 at the St. Agnes Catholic Parish in Roeland Park, Kansas.   Mary Ann loved and enjoyed her grandchildren, KU basketball, dining out and wine tasting trips to the Northwest. Her and John loved traveling and visited 47 of the 50 states. Foreign travel included a two week trip to England, Scotland and Ireland plus six winter time trips to Mexico. Not a big fan of water she humored John with two Windjammer Barefoot cruises to the northern and southern Caribbean. Mary Ann was a member of the Pleasant Hour Club of De Soto and the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas.   Mary Ann is survived by her husband John of 46 years; her two children: Michelle Ann Reeck and husband Jeff of Dallas, TX and Matthew James Stewart of Lawrence, Kansas; two grandchildren: Adam and Hannah Reeck; three brothers: Thomas Winter (Jacquie) of Scottsdale, AZ, Jerome Winter (Jeanne) of Fort Worth, TX and James Winter (Amy) of Flush, KS; one sister: Kathleen Rottinghaus (Emmett) of Westmoreland, KS and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents.   Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Flush. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mary Ann will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friday, where a visitation will be held starting at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
