Hazel E. Kelsey

Hazel E. Kelsey, 91, of Wamego, KS, passed away Monday, July 21 at St. Marys Manor. She had lived in Wamego since 1953. Hazel was born December 21, 1916 in Cedardale, OK, the daughter of George and Mary (Dennis) Botts. She attended schools in Cedardale before moving to Kansas as a teenager. Hazel married Archie Kearns in Manhattan, KS in 1934, they later divorced. She married George Henry Kelsey on March 15, 1952 in Manhattan, KS. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1992. Hazel was a homemaker and also worked for the Manhattan Mercury, delivering newspapers for 22 years, from January 1, 1958 until her retirement July 1, 1980. She was a member of the Women’s Relief Corps for many years, and enjoyed tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Her survivors include a son John Kearns and his wife Na, of Wichita, KS; two step-sons, Jim Kelsey and his wife Teresa, of Louisville, KS, Robert Kelsey and his wife Sharon, of Wamego, KS; two step-daughters, Peggy Jacobson and her husband Larry, of Aurora, CO, and Sandra Dickens of Millbrook, AL; eleven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Della Bates, and one brother, George Botts. Funeral services for Mrs. Kelsey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Wamego City Cemetery. Mrs. Kelsey will lie in-state at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. No evening visitation is planned. The family suggests memorial contributions to PRN Home Health and Hospice of Wamego, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, P.O Box 48, Wamego, KS, 66547.
