Joe E. Mikulecky, 74, of Alma, KS, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka, KS, one day after his 74th birthday.
Joe was born May 9, 1940 in Clay Center, KS, the son of Henry “Hank” and Velma (Mundis) Mikulecky. Joe attended elementary and high school in Linn and was on the basketball team. He and his dad spent many good times fishing and hunting. After graduation, Joe attended college at Emporia State University and also at Brown Mackie in Salina. He enlisted in the United States Navy and after his discharge, he began selling insurance until his health failed.
Joe had been a resident of the Alma Manor since April 30, 1992. He made a lot of friends in Alma and when his health was better he enjoyed nothing more than talking with others. Joe was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Alma.
He is survived by his cousins, Sharon Haines and Gary Johnson of Kansas City and Margie Johnson of Beatrice, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the St. John Lutheran Church of Alma. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Linn City Cemetery in Linn, KS. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. John Lutheran Church, Alma and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, KS, PO Box 126, 66401.
