Steven (Steve) R. Swander, 60, of Wamego, Kansas formerly of Manhattan passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his home.
Steve was born September 1, 1953 in Osborne, Kansas, the son of Stanley and Shirley (Thornburg) Swander. As a young child his family moved to Salina, Kansas, where he grew up and attended schools, graduating from Salina Central High School in 1971. After high school Steve attended Kansas State University. Steve began his 35 year electrical career in 1979 with American Electric and was employed by Stanion Wholesale Electric of Manhattan at the time of his passing. On December 31, 1980, Steve was united in marriage to Glenda Shaw in Wichita, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Steve enjoyed golfing and working. He was an avid K-STATE fan and enjoyed attending many sporting events. He loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter. Steve was a member of the Worldwide Church of God in Joplin, Missouri and was also a member of NEMRA.
Steve is also survived by his children: Sarah Swander of Blue Springs, MO and Stewart Swander of Overland Park, KS; his mother: Shirley Swander of Salina, KS; one granddaughter, Reagan; two sisters: Karen Choate and husband Jerel of Austin, TX and Carol Lord and husband Jim of Burbank, CA; one brother: Fred Swander and wife Ann of Salina, KS and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services for Steve will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Cremation will take place following his services. Steve will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, where family will greet friends during a visitation from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. all at the Stewart Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Steven R. Swander Memorial Fund, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
