Westmoreland- Genevieve A. Grutzmacher, 90, died Sunday morning August 17th, 2008 at Wamego City Hospital.
Genevieve was born on October 29, 1917 at home in rural Westmoreland the daughter of Henry G. and Emma (Blume) Lelievre. She attended West Union Grade School and walked 1 ¼ mile each way everyday. She graduated from Westmoreland Rural High School in 1936. She lived in an apartment, that was in town, by herself and attended high school everyday. On February 3, 1937 she was united in marriage to Lynn Grutzmacher. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2003, after 66 years of marriage.
Genevieve lived most of her adult life in the house in which she was born. She was a longtime member of the Westmoreland United Methodist Church, serving for years in the WSCS (UMW). She belonged to the “Merry Matron” club- a group of neighbor ladies, and a Pitch card club in which she and Lynn both enjoyed for many years. During the 60’s and 70’s when her children were older, she worked in the Treasurer’s Office in the Pottawatomie County Court House until her retirement.
She is survived by: her children, Lynda Rosander and her husband Jim of Westmoreland, KS, Lana Klinginsmith and her husband Tracy of Holton, KS, and Lance Grutzmacher and his wife Mina of Westmoreland, KS; her seven grandchildren, Jennifer Julian of Shawnee, KS, April Flagor of Shawnee, Ks, Nicole Meerpohl of Holton, KS, Erin Barnett of Lenexa, KS, Nathan Klinginsmith of the USMC, Mitchel Grutzmacher of Westmoreland, KS and Gina Roberts of Topeka, KS; her nine great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, Connor and Kadin Julian, Justin and Wes Flagor, Ashtin, Carson and Carter Meerpohl and Ellie, Marcus and Jack Barnett. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother Harold Lelievre and her sister Dorothy Lelievre-Mayer.
Services for Genevieve will be 10:30 a.m. Friday August 22, 2008 at Westmoreland United Methodist Church with burial following in Westmoreland City Cemetery. A visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Chapel in Westmoreland. Genevieve will lie in state at the funeral chapel starting at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday.
