Sandra Jean Steffens, 76, of Wamego, KS, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at her residence. She was a resident of Wamego since 2004.
She was born October 24, 1937 in Oak, NE, the daughter of Ralph and Lillian Baker, and graduated from Oak High School. She worked at Bahner Beauty College in Fremont, NE as a house mom from 1974 to 1984, and then as the house mom at the Masonic Home for Girls in Fremont from 1984 until retirement in 2004 and moving to Wamego to be close to her family. Sandra enjoyed camping trips with her family, going to the casinos, and was an avid Cornhusker fan. She especially enjoyed babysitting her grandkids and attending their ball games, and loved her dog Zoe.
Survivors include two daughters: Maria Steffens of Wamego, KS, and Wendy Montayne of Fairbolt, MN; two sons: Gary Bell of Hanover, PN, and Jim Steffens of Chugiak, AK; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Don Bell.
Sandra has willed her body to medical science. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Vintage Park of Wamego, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
