Robert “Bob” Hoffman, 70, of Wamego, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House of Manhattan.
Bob was born October 17, 1943, in Sabetha, Kansas, to Emerson and Irene (Carpenter) Hoffman. He grew up and attended grade school in Morrill, Kansas, before attending Sabetha High School. Bob enlisted into the United States Army in 1960 where he served until his honorable discharge in 1963. After the military, Bob returned home to work on the family farm near Morrill. On May 22, 1965, Bob was united in marriage to JoAnn Christman in Sabetha, Kansas. She survives at the home.
Bob began his career in the trucking business. It led the family to Tonganoxie, Abilene, and finally to Wamego in 1989. Bob was the owner of Hoffman Trucking, which he ran until his passing. Bob was a member of the American Legion Post 172, the Knights of Columbus, St. Bernard Catholic Church, and the National Federation of Independent Businessmen. He loved spending time with his friends, whether it was having coffee or talking on the phone. His greatest enjoyment, however, was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, JoAnn, and their three children: Jeff Hoffman and wife Debbie and their children Brianna and Joshua of Wamego, KS; Lisa Schartz and husband Jim and their children Jamie, Aubrie, and Jacob of Abilene, KS; and Kristi Link and husband Mike and their children Allison and Emma of Hutchinson, KS; two brothers: Ray Hoffman of Blanchard, IA and Mel Hoffman and wife Amelia of Sabetha, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Peggy Marteny.
Bob will lie in-state at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m., followed by the family greeting friends until 6:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Bernard Catholic church of Wamego. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery.
