Rex Burdett Foltz

Rex B. Foltz, 99, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning August 27, 2008 at Valley Vista Good Samaritan center in Wamego. He had been a resident at Valley Vista for the last four years due to a stroke but up until then had lived and worked on his farm south of Wamego. He was born June 18, 1909 in Zeandale, Kansas, the son of Daniel A. and Effie (Bailey) Foltz. He attended area schools and later went to Kansas State University. On February 26, 1936, he married Florence Eagan. She preceded him in death after 38 years of marriage. He later married Pauline Beard-Berner on August 17, 1976. She also preceded him in death after 26 years of marriage. Rex was a devoted farmer working until he had a stroke four years ago. He enjoyed hunting with his sons and was still hunting at the age of 96. Rex is survived by: his sons, Dan Foltz and wife Linda of Sioux Falls, SD and Thomas Foltz of Wamego, KS; his step-son, Larry Berner and wife Donna of Wamego, KS; his step-daughter Beverly Nelson and husband Ron of Kansas City, KS; his grandchildren, Eric, Mark, Todd, Brynn, Sarah, Ben, Cy, Shelly, Carol, Angela, and Brian; his 14 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his wives, he was also preceded in death by his brother Cyrus Foltz, his sister Hazel Line and two grandsons Abe and Brad. Graveside Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 30 at Wamego City Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego prior to services. Rex will lie in state on Friday starting at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in Rex’s name for Wamego High School FFA and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home P.O.
