Opal Arlene Piel

Opal Arlene Piel, 79, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at St Francis Health Center in Topeka. She had lived in Wabaunsee County near Belvue, KS on the farm she and her husband operated since 1958, until she moved to a care home in 2003. She had been a resident of the Rossville Healthcare Center in Rossville, KS until her death. Opal was born on March 30, 1929 in Horton, KS the daughter of Philip and Lillian (Moddlemog) Kneisel. She attended schools in Powhattan, KS and graduated from the Powhattan High School in 1947. On November 2, 1958, she married Edward W. Piel in Powhattan. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2001. Opal was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of McFarland, KS and was a devoted and loving mother and wife. Her survivors include her daughter Joanne A. Piel, of Topeka, KS; and four sisters, Delores Kneisel, Marion Kneisel, Marjorie Kneisel, and Phyllis Kneisel all of Topeka, KS. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Shirley, Rosalie, Aletha, and Helen; and her brother in-law, Elmer H. Piel. Funeral services for Mrs. Piel will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at the Trinity Lutheran Church of McFarland. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. She will lie in-state at the church one hour prior to service time on Thursday.
