Kenneth “Ken” Edwin Hitch, 56, Wamego, KS, passed away at his home Friday, September 26, 2014. Ken was born April 6, 1958 to Lewis “Lew” and Danna Jean (Foltz) Hitch in Ellis, KS. He attended grade school in Park City before graduating Westmoreland High School in 1976. Ken also attended Kansas State University where he played football as an offensive lineman and long snapper from 1976-1981. He was united in marriage to Christine Yvonne Sargent on May 2, 1990 in Tokyo, Japan. After college, he began working with Gallo Winery in Oklahoma City, Topeka, Hutchinson and Japan, until 1993 when he and Christie moved to Wamego. In 1994, he started working with Edward D. Jones in Wamego and then in St. Louis from 2001-2003, when they returned to Wamego and started Tri-County Waste. He served two separate terms for the Wamego School District #320 as a Board Member. Ken also served on the Wamego Recreation Board, Pottawatomie Solid Waste Committee, was a KSU Golden Cats member, and a member of the Wamego Country Club. He coached youth ball teams for many years, enjoyed golfing, coaching, working in the yard, traveling, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Christie, of the home; two sons, Casey and Colton Hitch, Wamego; a daughter, Kelsey Hitch, Wamego; two brothers, Dan (Mona) Hitch, Springfield, Tennessee, and Ed (Paula) Hitch, Lebanon, Tennessee; and a special family member, Nikki Biesenthal and son Cadan, Wamego. He was preceded in death by both of his parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Wamego High Football Stadium, followed by a gathering at his home, per Ken’s wishes, of all friends and guests to share in food and celebration of his life. Golf carts will be provided for rides from the parking area. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to the Ken Hitch Memorial Fund which will be designated for the Wamego Community Foundation Scholarship Fund, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
