WAMEGO- Daylon D. “Doug” Austin, 48, St. George, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.
Doug was born on July 24, 1966 in Joplin, Missouri to Daylon “Dee” and Mary Helen (Gordon) Austin. His family resided in Joplin until 1973 when they moved to Wamego. Doug graduated from Wamego High School in 1984 and attended MATC where he earned a degree in graphic design. He went on to work for Hawley Printing for over 20 years and then for Kansas State University for over 2 years, both as a graphic designer. Doug enjoyed fishing, playing pool with his friends as a part of the Club Rose Pool Team in Junction City, and was a huge Kansas City Chiefs football fan.
He was survived a son, Geoffrey Austin, California, a stepson, Josh Allison, Hutchinson, KS, two stepdaughters, Destiny Allison, Wamego, and Cassandra Umsheid and husband Joe, Olathe, KS, three sisters, Roxanne Hawkins and husband Kirby, St. George, Susan Johnson and husband Wayne, Wamego, and Pam Schmitt and husband Brent, Wellsville, KS, Bobbi Austin, St. George, a special friend, Anne Collier, Manhattan, 5 grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. The family will accept friends at 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at the Wamego City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials go to the Club Rose Pool Team and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
