Gary D. Cleveland, 79, passed away January 2, 2015 at his home in Wamego.
Gary was born on October 31, 1935 to Lyle and Verlie (Tuttle) Cleveland in Souix City, Iowa. He graduated from Concord High School in Nebraska in 1953 and then attended Wayne State University. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and would retire in 1990. Gary was united in marriage with Patricia Packer on March 28, 1981 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They resided in Lincoln until 1996 when they moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa and then moved again in 2003 to Wamego. Gary was a part of the American Legion Post 17 in Manhattan and collected antique cars.
He is survived by his wife, two sons: James (Amy) Cleveland, Aurora, CO, and Michael Cleveland, Westminster, CO; a daughter: Cynthia Qualls, Westminster, CO; a sister: Sharon (Jerry) Wehrer, Wayne, NE; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials go to Community Health Ministries, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, PO Box 48, 66547.
