Dale G. Schurr, 87, St. George, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Stormont Vail Healthcare in Topeka.
Dale was born on June 5, 1927 to Gilford and Delia (Scritchfield) Schurr in St. George, KS. After he graduated from St. George High School, Dale served in the United States Navy during World War II; he also attended Bethany College. He then worked for Kansas State University Power Plant for 40 years. On August 16, 1946, he was united in marriage with Loraine (Oppy) Schurr until her passing on April 27, 2011.
He was an avid fisherman, a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church, and was a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s events as well as watching sports. Dale also ran the time clock at St. George High School basketball games.
He is survived by three daughters: Patricia Schurr, St. George, Terri Lamb (Larry), Lacona, Iowa, and Ranae Martin, St. George; a son: Steven Schurr (Elaine), Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two brother in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Galen Schurr.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego with military honors to follow. Visitation will be Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at St. George Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials go to the First Baptist Church and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
