Helen A. Coon, 95, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at Wamego Health Center.
Helen was born September 29, 1919 near St. George, Kansas, the daughter of Willis and Mary (Reynolds) Dugan. She attended St. George Elementary and St. George High School. On November 27, 1939, Helen was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Coon. He preceded her in death in 2001. She was a homemaker, and in her later years she also worked as a housekeeper for several families. Helen enjoyed collecting salt and pepper shakers, and amassed a large collection of over 1,000 pairs. She also enjoyed painting, gardening, going fishing with her husband, and spending time with her family. Her survivors include one daughter: Donna “Jeanne” Foster, and her husband Mack, of Lakewood, CO; three sons: Michael Lawrence Coon, of Arroyo Grande, CA, Robert Lee Coon, of Wichita, KS, Clifford Leroy Coon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: John, Frank, and Carl Dugan; and one sister, Frances James. Funeral services for Mrs. Coon will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. The family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m., for one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in the St. George Cemetery.
