Florence M. Vanhole Sullivan, 100, a lifetime resident of the Wamego, Kansas area, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Alma Manor in Alma, KS.
She was born in Belvue, KS on January 10, 1908, the daughter of Jerome C. and Myrtle (Leonhart) Vanhole. She married David M. Sullivan on November 24, 1925 in St. Marys, KS., he preceded her in death in 1974. Florence was a member of the St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego, a past member of the Wamego Senior Center, and worked as a nurses-aide at the Wamego City Hospital for 29 years. Florence loved and enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, meeting people, and making rice crispy balls for her family at Christmas time.
Her survivors include a daughter- in-law, Joyce Sullivan, of St. George, KS; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son, David Sullivan, Jr.; 4 brothers, August, George, Russell, and Floyd Vanhole; and two sisters, Clara Holz and Irene Hesse.
A rosary will be recited at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 22, followed by a graveside service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys, KS at 11:30 a.m. Family will greet friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. Monday prior to the rosary.
