Mary Ann Schumacher, 76, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away suddenly on Monday, January 5, 2009 at Valley Vista Good Samaritan Center of Wamego from complications of Parkinson’s disease that she battled for many years. Born on April 11, 1932, in Wamego, KS, she was the daughter of George and Neva (Long) Shea. Mary Ann graduated from Wamego High School in 1950. After high school, Mary Ann went to Central Business College in Kansas City and then worked as a clerk for General Mills. Mary Ann married Lee “Cork” Schumacher on January 3, 1952 in Wamego, KS. While their children were growing up, Mary Ann and Cork lived in Wamego, Alaska, and Maryland. They finally settled in Connecticut for 23 years. While living in Connecticut, Mary Ann worked in dental and medical offices and was very active in AFS, the United Methodist Church, and her children’s school activities. In 1986 Cork retired and they moved back to Wamego, KS. Mary Ann enjoyed gardening, square dancing, hosting parties, traveling, sewing, and playing cards. She also loved spending time with her children, granddaughters, family and friends. In addition to her husband Cork; she is survived by her brother, Jim Shea and his wife Judy, of Manhattan; her sister, Sally McGowan and her husband Sam, of Wamego; her son, Lee Schumacher and his wife Linda, of Madison, CT; her daughter, Ann Llewellyn and her husband, Brian, and granddaughter, Lauren and Sarah, of Kingwood, TX. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church of Wamego. Burial will follow in the Louisville Cemetery. Mrs. Schumacher will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego beginning at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, with a visitation in the evening from 7-8:30 p.m. The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Flint Hills Parkinson’s Support Group or the Wamego United Methodist Church Building Fund.
