Viola Marie (Berggren) Boyce, 88, Wamego, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Valley Vista Good Samaritan Society in Wamego.
She was born on September 6, 1926 in rural Riley County to Arthur and Philynda (Laird) Berggren. She would go on to graduate from Leonardville High School in 1944 and got her Nurse’s Certificate from St. Mary’s Hospital in 1947. On November 11, 1948, she was united in marriage with Everett Boyce in Junction City. Everett preceded her in death on May 26, 2014.
After getting married, Viola left the hospital and went to help on the farm. In 1958, they left the Alida farm and moved to Wamego where she was a home maker and helped Everett farm. She loved raising piglets, as well as gardening, quilting and helping on the farm. She helped raise chickens and milked cows. In her later years, she found enjoyment in aerobic classes.
Viola was survived by two sons: Bill (Christy) Boyce, Wamego, and Robert “Bob” Boyce, Belvue; a daughter: Sandy (Paul) Corwin, Overland Park, KS; eight grandchildren: Heather Schulte, Erin Corwin, Charles Boyce, Joseph Boyce, Anna Boyce, Bethany Garren, Nathen Boyce, and Rachele Thompson; and sixteen great grandchildren.
She was also preceded death by her parents, a brother: Alvin “Bud” Berggren; and two sisters: Dorothy Kerr and Irene Shane.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Stewart Funeral Home Of Wamego. The family will accept friends at 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
