Connie Janet Yates

Connie J. Yates, 72, a lifelong resident of Wamego, Kansas passed away at her home Monday, January 19, 2009. Connie was born in Wamego, KS on August 20, 1936, the daughter of James “Harold” and Almeda May (Honshell) Wilburn. She attended Wamego schools, graduating from Wamego High School in 1954. She spent most of her working career as a secretary for the State of Kansas Real Estate Commission for 35 years until retirement. Connie was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Wamego. She cherished her time spent with her family and enjoyed having her dog, Misty, as her companion for many years. Survivors include her son, Lee Yates and his wife Suzie, of Silver Lake, KS; her brother, Bill Wilburn and his wife Joyce; one sister, Janice Swiger and her husband Bill, all of Wamego, KS; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Jessie Yates. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego.
