Leah Ann Smith, 64, Westmoreland, KS passed away Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Westy Community Care Home in Westmoreland. On May 11, 1951, Leah was born to Peter and Winifred “June” (Ruby) Myers in Alexanderia, Louisiana. She was a bus driver for Rock Creek High School, as well as a cook, for several years. She also worked as the City Clerk for Westmoreland. She was united in marriage with Richard Smith in 1991. Rick preceded her in death in 2009. Leah liked crocheting, quilting, and playing bingo. She was also known for her love towards cats and animals in general. Before Rick passed, they raised Boxers. She also loved gardening flowers, especially irises and bulbs. She is survived by a son: Guy (Kristin) Higbee, Concordia, KS; a daughter: Mandy (Calvin) Masters, Topeka, KS; two grandsons: Logan and Austin Higbee, Concordia, KS; a good friend: Amber Krohn, Westmoreland; a brother: Dr. Stephen (Ruth) Myers, Burnsville, MN; a sister: Vicki Vande Velde, St. Mary’s, KS; a cousin: Debbie Walters, Oklahoma City, OK; a nephew: Michael Vande Velde; three nieces: Amy Lett, Kim Gowen, and Jessica Mitchell; and numerous great nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by her parents. A Celebration of Life will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Graveside services will follow at the Westmoreland City Cemetery. The family has suggested memorials to the Rock Creek School District and the American Diabetes Association, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
