Lewis P. Hurst

Lewis P. Hurst, 69, of Alma, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015 at the Alma Manor where he had been a resident since 1997. Lewis was born June 5, 1946 in Gordon, Kansas, the son of Charles Crittendon Hurst and Jessie Laurena (Holloway) Hurst, the youngest of 7 children. He graduated from El Dorado High School and attended El Dorado Junior College for two years before enlisting into the Navy and serving his country in Vietnam for four years. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, he began his career as a mechanic which he did until his health brought an early retirement. He was married and had four sons prior to his divorce. He never remarried. He is also survived by a sister living in Oklahoma, and his many dear friends and caretakers at the Alma Manor. Military services of burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth, KS. Memorials are suggested to the Alma Manor and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Alma, P.O. Box 126, Alma, KS 66401.
