Betty Ann Karst, 91, a longtime resident of Wamego, KS. passed away Sunday, August 23, 2015 at Good Samaritan Society Valley Vista of Wamego.
Betty was born September 1, 1923 in Paxico, KS, the daughter of John A. and Mable (Buchneir) Shumaker. She attended a rural grade school northeast of Paxico and graduated from Paxico High School. On June 3, 1941, she was united in marriage to Leo Alexander Karst. He preceded her in death in 2007.
She worked as a beautician most of her life and also worked together with Leo owning and operating the Karst Soil Service for 30 years before retiring. Betty was a very good seamstress, and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and especially the time she spent with her grandchildren and family.
Betty is survived by a daughter, Jo Lane Randle and her husband John, of Wamego; a son, Alex Karst and his wife Willene, of Loveland, CO; four grandchildren, Rodney Simmer (Cheri), Kendra Simmer-Sexe (Ed), Jaren Karst, and Jaya Karst-Lewis (Brad); seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Blanch Huber, Beulah Sauls, and Beverly Vannostran.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Wamego City Cemetery. Betty will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m., Friday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, where the family will greet friends during visitation from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, prior to precession to the cemetery services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Wamego Fire Department Auxiliary Fund and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547, Wamego, KS.
