Richard “Dick” Dean Powell, 76, St. George, KS passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS.
Richard was born on June 16, 1939 in Manhattan, KS to Harold and LaVera (Hupe) Powell. After high school, Dick went to plumbing school and then worked at Powell Brothers and Midstate Mechanical as a master plumber. He was united in marriage with Helen Dornbusch on June 26, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Wamego. Helen survives of the home. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved teaching kids the art to the sports. Dick also liked to refurbish furniture and restore vehicles. Dick was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation, the American Legion Post #17 and the VFW in Manhattan.
He is also survived by a sister: Sherry (Gary) Duncan, St. George, KS; two brother in-laws: Gus (Donna) Dornbusch, Lincoln, NE, and Harold Fritzson, St. George, KS; a sister in-law: Rita Dornbusch, Westmoreland, KS; and several nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services for Dick will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. Inurnment will follow at the Louisville City Cemetery. The family will be accepting friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the St. George United Methodist Church, Good Shepherd Hospice House, and the National Wild Turkey Federation, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
