View Memorial Slideshow Stanley Patrick Schmidt, 58, of Wamego, KS, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, November 7, 2015. He was born in Hays, KS on July 8, 1957 to Sylvester A. and Evelyn F. (Marquardt) Schmidt. His parents and siblings settled in the Wamego area in 1958, and he became a lifelong resident. He attended St Bernard's Catholic elementary and junior high school and graduated from Wamego High School in 1975. He worked for Baldersons (CAT) in Wamego for many years. He was then hired at KDOT around 1990 in the Maintenance shop before being promoted to a Maintenance Engineering Technician. He worked at KDOT thru 2009, when he had a work related accident which left him disabled. He also had a part-time job at Peddicord Feedlot for many years, and loved working there any chance he had. Stan loved to work overtime and keep busy. Stan took pride in his farm, and livestock production. He loved KU sports. He loved his daughters, and in the past few years he grew a great pride in being called Papa by his grandkids. He had a caring spirit and contagious humor. Stan loved animals and was a member of the ASPCA. He had a close relationship with the Lord, and was an active member of St Bernard's Parish in Wamego. Stan had many friends near and far who he enjoyed staying in contact with. He married Diane Glanzer in 1983, they later divorced. He took pride in being a father, and is survived by two daughters, Anna (Schmidt) Griesbaum and her husband, Justin, of Wamego, KS, and Shelby Jordan, and her friend, Joey, of Emporia, KS. He has three grandchildren whom he adored, Camdin, Chayse and Caliah Griesbaum. He is also survived by brothers, Steve (Marty) Schmidt, Parkville, MO, David (Janell) Schmidt, Onaga, KS, John (Molly) Schmidt, Wamego, KS; and sisters, Janet Richardson, Topeka, KS, Jane Fechter, Lawrence, KS, Janelle Harris, Lawrence, KS, Mary Labbe, Wamego, KS, Jeanne (Joe) Newton, Hendersonville, TN, and Lori (Steve) Montgomery, Lawrence, KS. Stan is also survived by numerous aunts, and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, James and Mike. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 10:30 am, at St Bernard's Catholic Church of Wamego. Catholic Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Friday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with family greeting friends during visitation until 9:00 pm.
