Junior Lee Brown, 89, Manhattan, KS passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Westy Care Home in Westmoreland, KS. Junior was born on January 20, 1926 in Mount Moriah, MO to Herschel and Maria Brown. When he was 12 years old, he quit school to help chop wood to help keep the house warm and for cooking. Junior worked for Dyer Construction for 37 years on the dirt crew and then went to work for Britt Garden Acres for 20 years. He was a member of the Ogden American Legion for over 60 years, loved going to the casino, and building trinkets and things out of scrap. He was united in marriage with Doris Ruth (Tolly) Brown on August 20, 2002 in Manhattan, KS. She survives of the home. He is also survived by two step-daughters: Jane (Tal) Leonard, Chapman, KS, and Marcy Pulliam, East Lynne, MO; a step-granddaughter: Tinamarie Perez, Wakefield, KS; two brothers: Pee Wee (Jenny) Brown, and Carl Brown, both of Garnett, KS; and his good neighbors and friends: Jim and Deb Fleming, Manhattan, KS. He is preceded in death by his first wife: Marie Day; and two brothers: Phillip and Dale Brown. Graveside services for Junior will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at the Ashland Bottoms Cemetery, Southeast of Manhattan, KS. Everyone is encouraged to wear warm, casual clothing. The family has suggested memorials to Grace Hospice and the Wounded Warriors Foundation, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
