Robert "Bob" Raymond Straub

Robert R. “Bob” Straub, 77, died on November 27, 2015 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS from an intracranial hemorrhage. Bob was born on July 1, 1938, at his farm home near Flush, Kansas, the youngest son of Isadore A. and Loretta M. (Umscheid) Straub. He graduated from Flush High School in 1956, Kansas State University in 1960, and the U.S. Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, KS, in 1984. He retired in 1996 from the U.S. Treasury Department where he was a Team Coordinator in the Large Case Program of the Internal Revenue Service. After retiring from the IRS, he was a part-time Investigator/Examiner for the Kansas Supreme Court. He also was a retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve after 31 years of combined active and reserve service. He was married to Patricia D. Bussart in 1960; they were divorced in 1972. He was married to Janet K. (Reid) Tosh in 1996. She survives of the home. Bob’s active duty included the Berlin Crisis in 1961 and 1962, and Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Military awards included Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Medal with clusters, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Distinguished Unit award received while serving as a Deputy Brigade Commander at Walter Reed Army Medical Center during Operation Desert Storm. Bob was a member of the American Legion, Mater Dei Catholic Church in Topeka, KS and the Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Flush. He is also survived by three daughters: Julie R. Stanley, Topeka, KS, Jill R. Straub, Topeka, KS, and Jennifer L. Alexander (Todd), McPherson, KS; a stepdaughter: Kelly Tosh, Topeka, KS; a stepson: Clint Tosh, Topeka, KS; five grandchildren: Magan, Mason and Max Alexander, McPherson, KS, Jessica Smith, Topeka, KS, and Jacob Stanley, Topeka, KS; three step-grandchildren: Jaimie Swanepoel (Louis), Olathe, KS, Stephanie Tosh, Lawrence, KS, and Emily Conklin, Olympia, WA; one sister: Dolores A. Ebert, St. George, KS; and one brother: Earl J. Straub, Wamego, KS. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Wilfred I. Straub, Kenneth E. Straub, and Bernard Straub who died at infancy. A Mass of Christian Burial for Bob will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Flush, KS. Interment will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery. A Rosary will be Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. with a visitation to follow at the Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church, Topeka, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church and Mater Dei Catholic Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547. Friends are encouraged to wear purple in honor of Bob.
