WAMEGO- Bernard “Barney” Joseph Lenherr, 81, of Flush Kansas, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009.
Barney was born on his family farm near Flush, Kansas, on December 6, 1927, the son of Joseph Anthony and Genevieve Ann (Weltsch) Lenherr. He attended Flush Grade School and graduated from Flush High School in 1946. He then enlisted into the US Navy and served from 1946 to 1948, and enlisted into the US Air Force, serving from 1950 thru 1954. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Flush, and was a lifelong member of the church.
He lived, farmed, and raised livestock on his farm all his life. He loved to fish and made many trips to Colorado with his friends to trout fish and visit his sister Margaret. One of his favorite activities was target shooting with his brothers. He enjoyed and appreciated being able to see different places while he was in the Navy and Air Force.
Survivors include his six brothers and sisters, John Lenherr, of Wamego, KS, David Lenherr, of Flush, KS; Margaret Hysell, of Wamego, KS, Virginia Cochran, of Burrton, KS, Vivian Daywalt and her husband Bill, of Chandler, IN, Kathleen Noll and her husband Don, of Manhattan, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Giles Lenherr, Dec. 21, 2008.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Flush, KS. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A rosary will be recited at the church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. prior to the rosary. Mr. Lenherr will lie in-state at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, Friday, Mar. 13, from 12:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. There will not be an evening visitation.
