Ella Marie Hesse

Ella Marie (Songs) Hesse, 63, of Meriden, KS and formerly a longtime resident of Wamego, KS, passed away Wednesday, March 25 at Stormont-Vail in Topeka. Ella was born May 24, 1945, the third child born to Chester Raymond and Bernadine Ella (Niedfeldt) Songs, at their rural home in Wabaunsee County. She attended all eight years of grade school at the Hinerville School and graduated from Wamego High School in 1964. Ella was a member of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden and was a past member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Wamego. Ella will be well remembered as working as a sales clerk at Duckwalls in Wamego for 28 years. She enjoyed camping and sewing, and especially cherished the time her grandchildren spent visiting grandma’s home, and giving them rides in the golf cart to her house from the school bus stop. On July 24, 1966, Ella married John Jude Hesse in Alma, KS. He survives of the home. Other survivors include her daughter, Angela Kimble and her husband Rod, of Meriden, KS; three brothers, Ray Songs and his wife Nancy of Wamego, KS, David Songs and wife Cynthia, of Durham, NC, Tim Songs and his wife Traci, of Alma, KS; three sisters, Carol Hansing of Ridgecrest CA, Bonnie Palenske and her husband Jim, of Wamego, KS, Jacqueline Wohler of Manhattan, KS; three step-daughters, Sondra Lewis and husband Ralph, of Manhattan, KS, Judy Noonan and husband Tom, of Burlingame, KS, Becky Pingleton and husband Greg, Villa Ridge, MO; three grandchildren, Amanda, Haley and Chloe Kimble; three step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren, two aunts and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends with a special place in their hearts for Ella. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 30th at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Newbury Rd., Paxico, KS. A Rosary will be said Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Mrs. Hesse will lie in-state at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. Memorials have been designated to the American Diabetes Association, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, P.O. Box 48, 66547.
