William Duwayne Waltman

William Duwayne Waltman, 78, of Topeka, formerly of Paxico died Monday morning, March 30th, 2009, at Colmery O’Neil VA Medical Center. Born on February 9, 1931 in Paxico, Kansas, he was the son of Frederick and Dora (Breymeyer) Waltman. He graduated from Paxico High School in 1947 and later attended Kansas State University for three years. William proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged he worked with the State of Kansas Department of Agriculture as a motor carrier inspector for 25 years. He also was an area farmer in Paxico. On December 4, 1967, he married Mary Ann Cummings, in Kansas City, Kansas, she survives. William held memberships with Paxico American Legion, the “Possum College” Alumni Association and was also a member of Wells Creek Church. He loved animals, going to auctions and garage sales and he never knew a stranger. He could talk to a perfect stranger for an hour. His survivors include: his wife Mary Ann of the home; his sons, Michael Waltman and his wife Nancy of Topeka, KS, Richard Waltman and his wife Sara of Topeka, KS, Robert Waltman and his wife Michelle of Topeka, Kansas and Charles Waltman and his wife Jennifer of Seabring, Florida; his sister, Darlene Degenhardt of Phoenix, Arizona; his niece Kelly Long of Tempe, Arizona; and his grandchildren, Haley, Chaz and Hannah Waltman. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday April 3 at. at Wells Creek Church. Interment will follow with military burial honors in Wells Creek Cemetery. William will lie in state on Thursday starting at 1:00 p.m. and visitation will follow from 6:30-8:00 at Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. A memorial has been established in William’s name for the Disabled Veterans Association and contributions may be left in care of the funeral home P.O. Box 48, Wamego, 66547.
