Wamego- Elsie Mae Stewart Marrs, 82, of Topeka, KS, formerly a longtime resident of Wamego, KS, passed away early Monday, March 30, 2009 at St. Francis Health Care in Topeka. Elsie was born Sept. 14, 1926 near Admire, KS, the daughter of Hartley and Vella (Armstrong) Bush. She married Cleve Stewart on April 2, 1945, she then lived in Louisville, Kansas for three years and then moved to Wamego for 44 happy years. Cleve preceded her in death in 1995. After the death of Cleve, she was joined in matrimony on February 13, 1999, to Harvey Marrs for ten more wonderful years. He survives of the home. \. Elsie worked for over 20 years as a computer operator for the City of Wamego until retiring. She also worked for a short time at Murphy’s Sundries and Knostman’s Clothing. She was a member of the Wamego United Methodist Church and many other community organizations, including the Wamego Chapter of Business and Professional Women, receiving the chapter Wpman of the Year honor. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, loved to sing, joined Coachmans Camping Club, and spent over 30 years with the bowling clubs of both Wamego and Topeka. Survivors also include two sons, Gary Stewart and wife Grace of Topeka, KS, Richard Stewart and his wife Mina of Bon Aire, GA; two step-children, Linda Gallion and husband Rick of Maine, and Lane Marrs and wife Terry of S.C.; two sisters, Vesta Gwaltney and husband Jean of Topeka,KS, Mary Beasterfield and husband Chuck of Eskridge, KS; two brothers, Elvin Bush, Eskridge, KS, Clyde Bush and his wife Lois of Admire, KS; 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Wamego. The family will greet friends during a visitation at the church prior to the funeral service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Burial will be in the Wamego City Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Wamego United Methodist Church or the American Heart Assoc. and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, P.O. Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
