Betty Jean Ridder

Betty Jean Ridder, 83, of Topeka, KS, and formerly of Flush, KS, passed away surrounded by her family, Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Betty was born on the family farm near Flush, KS on February 6, 1932, the daughter of Raymond P. and Stella Siebert Umscheid. She attended Flush schools and graduated from Flush High School. On March 28, 1950, Betty was married to Kenneth B. Ridder at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Flush. He survives of the home. Betty was a homemaker, raising her family, tending to her gardens, providing many excellent meals, and was a wonderful seamstress. She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church of Topeka, and a past-member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Flush. She is also survived by her two daughters: Cindy Stone and her husband Phil, of Topeka, KS, and Christy Plachecki, of Topeka, KS; a brother, Patrick Umscheid, of Snellville, GA; seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, David Ridder, and her siblings: Rose McClure, Juanita Chilcott, Rayone Ekart, Steve Umscheid, and Dennis “Bud” Umscheid. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 11, 2016, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Flush. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Betty will lie in-state beginning at 1:00 p.m., Sunday at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego where a Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. with a visitation until 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Manor Samaritan Fund and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
