Annamary M. Hosler, 94, of Wamego, KS, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Meriden, KS, where she had been living since 2013. She was born January 4, 1922 in Akron, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Marie (Zaleuke) Moore. She moved to Alma, KS in her early childhood, attended schools there and graduated from Alma High School in 1940. Annamary married Glen “Max” Hosler on June 2, 1940 and they made their home in Wamego. Max preceded her in death in 2007. Annamary went to Topeka to learn acetylene welding, and was employed by two aircraft companies and later by the aircraft defense plant in Kansas City, certified as a Class A acetylene welder during WWII, building the Gliders used from D-day through the invasion of France. She served as a police officer for the Riley County Police Department from 1963 until her retirement in 1986, having the distinction as being the first female officer of the Riley County Police Department. She was also a member of the Kansas Peace Officers Association. Survivors include her two daughters: Sherry Brown of Meriden, KS, Ramona Ellison of Little Rock, AR; three grandchildren: Chianne Capel, Dallas Brown, and Darren Brown; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Annamary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 15, 2016 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego, with casket remaining closed. Burial will follow in Wamego City Cemetery. Family will greet friends prior to the funeral, beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Pottawatomie County Caring Hearts Humane Society, and may be left in care of the Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, 66547.
