Mildred Edna Bowen, 91, Council Grove, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Diversicare of Council Grove. On July 12, 1924, Mildred was born the third of four children to Charles and Lillian (Miller) Hasenbank in McFarland, Kansas. Mildred lived most of her life in Wabaunsee County and attended County School #75. She was united in marriage with Kenneth “Hank” Bowen of Mount Orab, Ohio, on November 13, 1948. They lived in the community until Hank’s death in 2007. Mildred worked as a waitress at the Victory Café in Wamego, a cook at Wamego High School, and as a salesperson at Vanderbilts in Wamego. Mildred enjoyed playing golf, sewing, and spending time with friends and family. She is survived by two sons: Ed Bowen (Jeanne), Council Grove, KS, and LeRoy Bowen (Pat), Leon, KS; a daughter: Virginia Linderman, Winfield, KS; 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, a son: Victor Bowen; a grandson: Tommy Brown; and 3 brothers: LeRoy, Ralph, and Victor Hasenbank. Graveside services for Mildred will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February, 23, 2016 at the Wabaunsee Cemetery. A visitation will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego before the service.
