Lewis Lee Reiners, 79, of Wamego, KS and a lifetime resident of the Paxico, KS community, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at the Wamego City Hospital.
Lewis was born December 3, 1929 on his family’s farm north of Paxico, the son of John and Rose M. (Martens) Reiners. He attended Paxico rural schools and worked on the family farm his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, from 1954 to 1956, before returning to his farm and livestock. Lewis never married, but he loved being with his brother, sister and family members. He was admired by many friends for his warm personality. Lewis was a lifetime member of the Wells Creek Immanuel Faith Community Church. He enjoyed fishing and was very handy at repairing and making things.
He is survived by his sister, Gladys Reiners Hinckle and her husband, Del, of Bel Aire, KS; two nieces, Sheila Whetstone, of Temple, TX, and Angela Herbert, of Benton, KS. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn E. Reiners in 1985.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 4 at Wells Creek Immanuel Faith Community Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Lewis will lie in state on Sunday from 1:00 pm until 3:00 p.m. at the Stewart Funeral Home in Wamego. Memorials are suggested to the Wells Creek Immanuel Faith Community Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home.
