View Memorial Slideshow Betty Ann Schumacher, 82, Wamego, KS passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan, KS. On November 27, 1933, Betty was born to Frank Wesley and Grace Marie (Churchill) Novak in Cleburne, KS. She spent her childhood in the Olsburg area and attended local country schools, graduating from Blaine High School in 1953. She was united in marriage with Donald Henry Schumacher on November 27, 1953 in the old town of Randolph at the Randolph Methodist Church. Together they raised three children. Don preceded her in death on January16, 1980. Betty was an active member of the Wamego and Louisville communities. She often donated her time at the nursing home reading to residents, and the senior center teaching computer classes and made quilts and paintings to display. She also opened up the farm for boy and girl scouting activities, decorated cakes, and helped with the Louisville Methodist Church. Betty was an active member of the church and had past affiliations with EHU and Tops. Betty is survived by her three children: Wanda Schumacher (Mac Campbell), Wamego, KS, Bonnie Prouty (David), Alexandria, VA, and Don Schumacher, Louisville, KS; two brothers: John Novak (Lois) and Lester “Pete” Novak (Jan), both of Cedar Rapids, IA; three sisters: Cleo Hendry (Don), Topeka, KS, Ruth Vaughn (Jerry), Frankfort, KS, and Wendy Pierson (Eugene), Meriden, KS; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She is also preceded in death by three brothers: Duane Novak, Frank Wesley Novak, Jr., and Harold “Dick” Novak; and a sister: Dorothy Johnson. Betty was laid to rest at the Louisville Township Cemetery Saturday, April 9, 2016. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at the Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego. In lieu of flowers and memorials, the family has suggested hugs and loving thoughts to loved ones. Memorials are suggested to the Louisville Methodist Church, and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home, PO Box 48, Wamego, KS 66547.
